The Miami Marlins secured their third walk-off victory of the season on Sunday, defeating the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-2.

This dramatic win marked a historic achievement, as the Marlins became the first MLB team in over 20 years to record three walk-off victories to start a season.

The game began with a bang as Andrew McCutchen, the 38-year-old Pirates veteran, hit a lead-off homer in the top of the second inning to give Pittsburgh an early 1-0 lead.

However, the Marlins responded quickly.

In the bottom of the second, catcher Nick Fortes hit an RBI double to left, driving in Derek Hill to tie the game at 1-1 heading into the third inning.

McCutchen, now with 800 career extra-base hits, became the third active player to reach that impressive milestone, joining Freddie Freeman (885) and Paul Goldschmidt (833) on the list.

The Pirates briefly regained the lead in the top of the fifth when Isiah Kiner-Falefa hustled out an infield single to drive in Endy Rodriguez, who had walked to lead off the inning.

This put the Pirates up 2-1.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Marlins tied the game again at 2-2.

Griffin Conine, who had his father Jeff inducted into the Marlins Hall of Fame earlier that day, launched a solo home run to left field.

Jeff Conine, known as "Mr. Marlin," was an integral part of the Marlins’ World Series titles in 1997 and 2003.

His Hall of Fame induction added extra emotion and significance to the moment for his son.

With the game knotted at 2-2 heading into the bottom of the ninth, Derek Hill led off the inning with a walk.

He then stole second base and advanced to third on a throwing error by Pirates catcher Endy Rodriguez.

The stage was set for Hill to make the game-winning play.

With Hill on third, Pirates closer David Bednar threw a wild pitch that allowed Hill to score the winning run, giving the Marlins their third walk-off win of the season.

Earlier in the game, Marlins outfielder Kyle Stowers made an incredible defensive play in the top of the ninth, robbing Enmanuel Valdez of extra bases with a running catch at the warning track.

This walk-off victory was part of an exciting series for the Marlins, who won three of their four games against the Pirates, with all three wins being via walk-off.

Despite losing one game, the Marlins' ability to win in dramatic fashion provided a strong start to their season.

The Marlins are now 3-1 after their opening series, a significant improvement compared to last season’s dreadful 0-9 start.

The team’s early success offers hope for the season ahead, with walk-off wins highlighting the squad's ability to rise to the occasion.

Up next, the Marlins will head home to face the New York Mets in a three-game series starting Monday.
