The Philadelphia Phillies delivered a powerful offensive performance on Saturday, defeating the Washington Nationals 11-6 with key contributions from Kyle Schwarber, Bryson Stott, and Brandon Marsh.

Schwarber was the standout with a clutch three-run homer in the sixth inning, his second in as many games.

That bomb was part of a five-run outburst that put the Phillies in control.

Marsh then sealed the win in the seventh, adding another three-run shot that energized the Phillies’ dugout and brought chants from the crowd at Nationals Park.

Making his debut for Philadelphia, Jesús Luzardo impressed on the mound, striking out 11 batters in five innings of work.

Despite his dominance, Luzardo did allow Keibert Ruiz to hit a two-run homer in the second inning, marking the only runs he surrendered.

The Phillies responded in the fourth inning with a two-run blast from Bryson Stott, who homered off Jake Irvin to tie the game.

Irvin pitched five innings, giving up four earned runs, and kept Washington within striking distance early on.

The turning point came in the sixth inning when Colin Poche entered in relief.

He struggled with his control, loading the bases with just one out.

Lucas Sims replaced him, but his brief appearance proved disastrous.

Sims walked in a run, then threw a wild pitch that allowed another to score, giving the Phillies a 4-2 lead.

That was just the beginning of the offensive surge.

Schwarber, who has been in a hot streak, launched a 1-2 pitch to right-center for a three-run home run, extending the Phillies' advantage to 7-2.

Philadelphia would continue to pile on runs, eventually taking an 11-3 lead.

Injuries also played a role in the game for the Phillies.

Trea Turner was scratched from the lineup due to a back spasm, and J.T. Realmuto exited the game in the seventh inning after suffering a bruise on his left foot.

Despite a late rally by Washington, the Nationals’ offensive efforts were too little, too late.

Dylan Crews, the Nationals' highly anticipated prospect, went 0-for-5 with five strikeouts, struggling to find his footing in his first start.

The Nationals did see some bright spots, as Amed Rosario and Nathaniel Lowe both homered, but the pitching woes were too much to overcome.

The biggest takeaway from the game was the struggles of Lucas Sims and Colin Poche in relief, as both pitchers failed to contain the Phillies’ offense.

Sims’ ERA skyrocketed to an alarming 40.50, and Poche’s stands at 54.00 after giving up multiple runs in Washington’s earlier loss to Philadelphia on opening day.

Keibert Ruiz, who homered in this game, joined Trea Turner as the only Nationals to homer in each of the season’s first two games, a small individual achievement amid a tough team loss.

Looking ahead, the Phillies will aim for a series sweep on Sunday, with Aaron Nola, who went 3-0 with a 1.85 ERA against Washington last season, taking the mound.
